Cost - Honestly Broken Down

How much does a website cost?

The honest answer: somewhere between $10 a month and $150,000. What makes the difference is rarely the design - it's scope, technology and who does the work. Here are the real market ranges for the US and UK, the cost drivers behind them, and our own prices laid out right next to them.

01The Market

What the US and UK market charges

Price ranges for a business website, gathered from US pricing guides, agency-marketplace data (including Clutch.co's buyer surveys) and UK agency-guide sources (2025/2026).

RoutePriceWhat drives the price
DIY website builder (Wix, Squarespace, Framer)$10-$159/mo, roughly $240-$600/yr with annual billingPlatform tier (storage, e-commerce features, analytics) and add-ons - you do the building and the upkeep yourself
Freelancer, small-business site$500-$8,000 (UK roughly £800-£4,000)Freelancer experience and location, number of pages, template vs. custom design, revisions included
Agency, small-business site (5-10 pages)$5,000-$30,000+, median about $5,000 per Clutch.co's buyer survey (UK £2,500-£4,500 typical, up to £10,000 for specialist agencies)Number and complexity of pages, custom design vs. theme, copywriting/photography included, CMS integration, agency size and location (US agency rates $100-$149/hr; UK agency rates £150-£250/hr)
Larger custom build / website system with CMS$20,000-$100,000+Multi-user, role-based permissions, multilingual support, AI personalization and integrations into existing systems each add their own cost
E-commerce site$1,500-$150,000+ (agency-built Shopify stores typically $5,000-$20,000)Platform choice (SaaS like Shopify vs. fully custom), number of SKUs and integrations, custom checkout and design work, ongoing app subscriptions

Most of these ranges come from agency and SEO-guide pricing pages, not a neutral market survey - read them as an order of magnitude, not a quote. The one exception is Clutch.co, a B2B research and review platform whose buyer survey found a median of about $5,000 for small-business websites, with 61% of buyers spending under $10,000 and 84% under $20,000 - the closest thing to primary data in this picture. Figures are in US dollars; UK amounts are shown in pounds where that market differs enough to matter.

02Cost Drivers

What the price actually depends on

Compare two quotes and you're rarely comparing the same thing. These six points explain almost every difference.

Number of pages and content

Every extra page is its own layout, copy, imagery and, later, upkeep. Five pages and fifteen pages are not the same job - no matter how similar they look.

Template or bespoke design

A purchased template costs a one-off $50-100 and looks like a thousand other sites. A design system built for you is the single biggest line item in any serious quote.

Who supplies copy and images

The most commonly underestimated factor. Supply your own content and the project gets cheaper and faster. Ask us to write copy and source imagery, and that becomes its own line of work in the quote.

Multiple languages

Every additional language doesn't just double the copy - it doubles structure, navigation and upkeep too, and needs clean hreflang markup so Google matches the right version to the right reader.

Content you can manage yourself (CMS)

A content system where you add products, references or job listings yourself isn't a checkbox - it's its own layer of the build, which is why the price moves noticeably once it's in scope.

Integrations and accessibility

CRM, booking, inventory or payment providers are each a mini-project inside the project. Accessible, WCAG-conformant markup is good practice everywhere, and increasingly a legal expectation too - ADA claims over inaccessible sites are common in the US, and UK sites fall under the Equality Act - so it pays to budget for it from the start rather than retrofit it later.

03Where We Stand

Where we land in this picture

Our prices are public: Starter from €2,400 with up to ten pages, Company website from €4,900, Website system from €9,900 with its own CMS. Every package rests on the same foundation: bespoke design instead of a template, copy and imagery from us, a solid SEO base, a structure built so AI search engines can read and cite it, plus hosting and care from €49 a month. That puts us right at the US market median for a professionally built small-business website - Clutch.co's buyer survey puts that median at about $5,000. We're not the cheapest option on this page and not the most expensive one: we're priced where the market actually sits.

No hidden line items: you see our package prices before you ever talk to us. The binding fixed price for your project follows a short conversation - as a rule within one working day, and it stays valid for 14 days.

05Frequently Asked Questions

Website cost - answered briefly

What does a professional website cost in the US?+

For a custom-built small-business site, the market typically runs $5,000-$30,000+, with Clutch.co's buyer survey putting the median at about $5,000 and 61% of buyers spending under $10,000. Freelancer and template-based builds start lower, around $500-$8,000. A larger website system with heavy customization runs $20,000-$100,000+. A DIY builder you build and maintain yourself costs $10-$159 a month.

Why do quotes vary so much?+

Because two quotes rarely cover the same scope. Number of pages, bespoke design versus a template, who supplies copy and images, multiple languages, a CMS you can manage yourself, and integrations with other systems explain almost every difference. A quote without these details isn't really comparable to another one.

What does a website cost to run every month?+

Hosting runs $5-$300 a month depending on tier. Maintenance and care typically run $25-$600 a month depending on scope - the difference is whether it's just security updates or also content and SEO work. Larger e-commerce operations can run up to $2,500+ a month.

Isn't a website builder cheaper?+

In dollars, yes - in time, rarely. You do the building, writing and upkeep yourself, the design stays bound to the platform's templates, and you'll hit limits on structure, performance and accessibility sooner than expected. For a very simple first presence, a builder can still be the right call - we'll say so honestly.

Does my website need to be accessible?+

There's no single US federal law requiring every business website to meet WCAG, but ADA lawsuits over inaccessible websites are common and courts have increasingly applied the ADA to the web. In the UK, business websites fall under the Equality Act. Either way, budgeting for accessible markup from the start is standard practice and cheaper than retrofitting it later.
